SPC’s Advanced Proportional Controller for Fan-Assisted Heaters
The SPC Modulo v3 is our latest proportional controller, specifically engineered for fan-assisted heaters requiring precise airside control via 0 to 10V analogue signals. This controller optimises performance for the SPC range of heating units, which utilise energy-efficient EC/DC fans to deliver enhanced comfort, energy efficiency, and air distribution.

User-Friendly Thermostat Control
The Modulo v3’s intuitive thermostat design prioritises simplicity. The thermostat is energised with a touch in the top-right area, while setpoint adjustments can be made with bottom left and right touch areas—no other settings are required, making it easy to manage.
Automatic Fan Speed Control
By automatically adjusting the fan convectors’ rotational speed based on the difference between the sensed and setpoint temperature, the Modulo v3 creates a comfortable environment without additional manual adjustments.
New Optional Relay Box for On/Off Control
With the Modulo v3, a relay box with a volt-free contact is available, allowing for on/off control of a water valve providing greater control over fan convectors in heating systems.
Lockable Transparent Cover Box
For settings that need security, a lockable transparent cover box is available, ensuring thermostat access is restricted when required.

Energy Efficiency at Your Fingertips
The graph shows how the controller varies the speed of the fan in response to the difference between the actual temperature and the setpoint temperature. The fan speed is continuously varied within the proportional band to match heat output to the required load precisely.

Frequently Asked Questions
A standard on/off thermostat switches the Fan Convector fully on when the room is cold and fully off when the setpoint is reached. This creates temperature swings; the room overshoots the setpoint before the thermostat turns off, then undershoots before it turns back on. Proportional control (like the Modulo controller) varies the fan speed continuously based on how far the room temperature is from the setpoint. When the room is cold, the fan runs at high speed. As the room approaches the setpoint, the fan slows down, reducing overshoot and maintaining a stable temperature. The result is better comfort and lower energy consumption.
Proportional control reduces fan energy consumption by running the fan at lower speeds for most of the operating time rather than cycling between full speed and off. The actual savings depend on the building, occupancy patterns, and how well the system is sized. In a typical office or classroom with good insulation, the energy cost savings over the lifetime of the unit can be substantial. Contact SPC’s technical team for more information.
The Modulo v3 is designed for SPC Fan Convectors and Trench units with EC/DC fan motors that accept 0–10V variable speed control. It is compatible with Belgravia Classic, Belgravia Supreme, and Metropolitan Trench Heaters. It is not compatible with older Fan Convectors with AC motors or units from other manufacturers unless they support 0–10V analogue control. If you’re unsure whether your existing Fan Convectors are compatible, contact SPC’s technical team with the model number/unit type.
The standard Modulo v3 controls fan speed only; it varies the airflow to match the heating demand. The optional relay box adds a volt-free contact that can be used to control an on/off motorised valve on the waterside. This allows you to shut off the water flow when the room reaches temperature, which is useful for preventing heat gain in unoccupied rooms or for integrating with a BMS. The relay box is an optional accessory and must be specified at the time of order.
Yes, the Modulo v3 is available with an optional lockable transparent cover box. This allows occupants to see the setpoint temperature but prevents them from changing it. The cover is ventilated to ensure accurate temperature sensing. The lockable cover is commonly specified for schools, public buildings, and any environment where thermostat tampering is a concern.
Yes, the Modulo v3 can integrate with a BMS in several ways. The relay box option provides a volt-free contact for remote on/off control or status monitoring. The 0–10V control signal can also be overridden by a BMS to set fan speed directly, bypassing the internal thermostat. For more complex integration, SPC can provide wiring diagrams and technical support for your specific BMS. Contact SPC’s technical team for guidance on BMS compatibility.
