Located in the heart of Oxfordshire, a historic Baptist Church stands as a testament to a rich past. But even places of worship can feel the chill, and this church was no exception.

For over 40 years, their trusty early-generation SPC Belgravia Fan Convectors, formerly known as Fenton Byrn, kept the warmth flowing. However, as time went on and with evolving efficiency standards and a desire for increased comfort, an upgrade was needed.

Following a site survey carried out by Chris Ward last year, the church decided to stay with SPC, opting for our sleek and efficient Belgravia Classic Fan Convectors. These traditional Fan Convectors blend seamlessly with the church’s aesthetic.

SPC Belgravia BEL40 and BEL60 models were installed throughout the church, community room, staff room, and reception area, and now deliver warmth to the areas, ensuring a comfortable and inviting space for everyone. The installation was carried out by AHS Swindon Ltd.

The SPC team recently gathered to celebrate the end of a remarkable year, filled with delicious food, great company, and some epic ping-pong battles!

Reflecting on the past twelve months, 2023 has been a year of remarkable achievements for SPC. The last few months, in particular, have been amazing. We take immense pride in our team and the collective accomplishments that are pushing SPC forward. As we wrap up this year, we want to carry this positive momentum into 2024.

The school summer holidays are always a busy time for SPC and this year was no exception!

The project we are sharing today is from a summer school Fan Convectors project that took place in Plymouth, earlier in the year, in partnership with Totus Engineering. The school originally had our Belgravia Fan Convectors which were installed when the school was first built, however, these were almost over 40 years old – this just shows how robust and long-lasting our Fan Convectors are! As these Fan Convectors were reaching their end, it was decided that they should be replaced with our newer, modern and more energy-efficient units.

The old Fan Convectors were replaced and installed with new units throughout the school and paired with our Modulo v2 controller allowing for proportional speed control providing enhanced comfort and energy efficiency.

Several Belgravia Classic and Supreme units were manufactured for this school project; in the cloakroom and hallway area, our Belgravia Classic K-style unit was used. These units are vertically concealed with a rear-facing access panel and bottom inlet and top outlet spigots.

One of the installers on the project commented saying:

“The units were easy and simple to install.”

The Caretaker said:

“The new Belgravia Fan Convectors are easy to control using the Modulo v2 Controller.”

We are delighted to have been able to help this school with their Fan Convector project and we are confident that the new units will provide them with many years of trouble-free service.

Direct-fired heat generators, commonly used in commercial and industrial buildings, emit harmful carbon dioxide directly into the atmosphere. These emissions contribute substantially to climate change and pose a significant threat to our environment.

Indirect emitters, which rely on fossil fuel-burning boilers, can be replaced with low-carbon heating emitters to reduce emissions. These heat emitters operate at lower temperatures, compatible with efficient low-temperature generators such as heat pumps.

Heat pumps, known for their energy efficiency, transfer heat from a low-temperature source, such as air or ground, to a higher-temperature destination, such as a home or building. They are an excellent choice for reducing carbon emissions in the heating sector.

Traditional emitters, designed for higher temperatures, can hinder the performance of heat pumps. Oversized or enhanced emitters, specifically designed for heat pumps, ensure optimal efficiency and maximise energy savings.

While the initial cost of oversized or enhanced emitters may be higher than traditional emitters, their long-term energy savings outweigh the upfront investment. As demand for these emitters increases, their cost is expected to decline, making them even more cost-effective.

Transitioning to a low-carbon heating future requires a comprehensive approach that encompasses phasing out direct-fired heat generators, adopting low-carbon emitters, and utilising efficient heat pumps. By embracing these technologies, we can significantly reduce our carbon footprint, contribute to a cleaner environment, and create a more sustainable heating infrastructure.
