Dorking Fire Station – Belgravia Fan Convectors for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service

SPC supplied a range of Belgravia Classic fan convectors for a heating upgrade at Dorking Fire Station in Surrey, working with mechanical contractor Johnson Controls to deliver a floor-mounted solution across the building. Five units, spanning three model sizes, were specified to suit varying room heat loads, each fitted with low water flow heat exchangers and energy efficient ECM motors to support the site’s low water temperature heating system.

SPC's Solution

Joe Vincent, SPC’s Area Sales Manager, worked with Johnson Controls‘ design team to finalise the specification following several rounds of review as room requirements were confirmed. The finished scheme uses vertical, floor-mounted Belgravia Classic BS style fan convectors throughout, chosen for their compact footprint and straightforward installation on 100mm steel plinths.

Each unit was specified with a low water flow heat exchanger, suited to the low water temperature 45/35°C system operating across the station. High performance ECM motors were selected throughout for efficient, quiet running, with built-in on-off and speed change thermostats (T1/T2) giving simple local control at each unit without the need for additional wall-mounted controllers.

Key Specifications

All units share the following: Belgravia Classic BS style, floor mounted on 100mm steel plinths, lowflow heat exchanger, ECM motor, AF2 washable air filter, ALTC adjustable low water temperature cut-out, CCB connection box, T1/T2 built-in on-off and speed change thermostat, tamperproof access fasteners, and a textured white RAL 9010 finish. Design basis: air on 20°C, water 45/35°C, 230V single phase.

Heating duty: 2 to 3.7kW across three speed settings
Airflow: 94 to 212 l/s

Fan Convector (x1) – BEL90

Heating duty: 2.5 to 5kW across three speed settings
Airflow: 108 to 285 l/s

Fan Convector (x1) – BEL40

Heating duty: 1.5 to 2.2kW across three speed settings
Airflow: 80 to 126 l/s

Outcome

The installation at Dorking Fire Station was completed by Johnson Controls, with all five Belgravia Classic fan convectors now in operation across the site. The floor-mounted units provide efficient, low water temperature heating suited to the building’s requirements, with ECM motors and low-flow heat exchangers helping to keep running costs down.
