Metropolitan Trench Heating | Museum of Two Halves, Wrexham

As part of the transformation of Wrexham’s historic County Buildings into the Museum of Two Halves, home to both an enhanced Wrexham Museum and Wales’ first National Football Museum, SPC supplied Metropolitan Trench Heating to serve the entrance area of the redeveloped visitor attraction. SPC worked with mechanical contractor J R S Mechanical Services Ltd to specify two fan-assisted trench heating units, providing discreet, low-level heating suited to the space’s existing floor trench arrangement.

A Landmark Restoration

The Museum of Two Halves is transforming the Grade II listed County Buildings on Regent Street, home to Wrexham Museum since 1996, into a world-class visitor attraction combining an expanded Wrexham Museum with Wales’ first football museum. The project is backed by Wrexham Council, Welsh Government, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Wolfson Foundation, with additional support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and is due to open in summer 2026.

Our Heating Solution

SPC’s Paul Shankland worked with J R S Mechanical Services Ltd to specify Metropolitan Trench Heating for Room G01 (reception area), sized to fit the existing trench dimensions available within the space. Fan-assisted units were selected to maximise heat output from the available trench footprint. Following a design review with the project’s consulting engineer, the water flow and return temperatures were revised to 65/60°C to improve heat output, with each length of trench heating controlled by an individual TRV with remote sensor, and an SPC Modulo thermostat controller specified for the installation.

Project Outcome

The trench heating installation is now complete, forming part of the wider redevelopment of the County Buildings as it transforms into the Museum of Two Halves ahead of its planned 2026 reopening. Installation was carried out by J R S Mechanical Services Ltd.
