Manchester College Wythenshawe

Manchester College’s Wythenshawe campus is gaining a new brickwork workshop as part of an LTE Group extension, and SPC supplied the free-hanging radiant heating panels. Working with Integra Electrical Contractors Limited, SPC provided 20 runs of Thermatile TEN-TWELVE radiant heating panels, hung freely above the workshop floor and designed for low water temperature operation at 55/50°C.

The panels were selected against a radiant panel schedule prepared by Waterman, for a building served by an air source heat pump, with Medlock FRB as main contractor.

Building for Construction Skills

The extension is part of LTE Group’s continued investment in the college’s construction and engineering provision, creating purpose-built teaching spaces for brickwork, construction and engineering skills. Work is being delivered in three phases to limit disruption across the campus.

Phase one is the new brickwork workshop: a steel-framed building with built-up metal cladding, offering a large open workshop space with ancillary rooms off the main area. The later phases remodel two existing workshop spaces into classrooms, an engineering workshop and staff offices.

The workshop’s building services include an air source heat pump supplying hot water and heating through radiant heating panels, alongside specialist ventilation and dust extraction.

Our Heating Solution

Following the enquiry, SPC Area Sales Manager Paul Shankland and the internal sales team quoted against Waterman’s radiant panel schedule. Free-hanging Thermatile TEN-TWELVE panels were offered, with the selection based on the output required for the workshop.

Radiant panels suit this kind of space. They operate silently with no air movement or dust circulation, which is helpful in a workshop where dust is a consideration. Outcome

The Thermatile radiant heating panels give the new brickwork workshop quiet, low-temperature radiant heating that works with the building’s air source heat pump and supports the campus’s wider investment in energy efficient teaching facilities.
