Terry Johnstone, SPC’s Operations and Manufacturing Co-ordinator, marked an extraordinary 50 years with the company on 16th August 2026, having joined just weeks after S & P Coil Products Limited was founded in Leicester.

A career spanning half a century

Terry joined SPC straight from school in 1976, after his father spotted the job advertised in the local paper. He applied and got it, and five decades later he remains a key part of the team, now responsible for the distribution of finished goods and ensuring every customer delivery runs smoothly. His long service reflects the same standards of reliability that have underpinned SPC’s manufacturing operation in Leicester for over 50 years.

The world in 1976

To mark the occasion, colleagues put together a look back at the world Terry started work in. James Callaghan was Prime Minister, the UK was in the grip of the 1976 heatwave, with temperatures reaching 35.9°C, and Elton John and Kiki Dee topped the charts with “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” Fifty years on, Terry has seen SPC grow and evolve while remaining a constant presence within it.

A team celebration

Colleagues gathered for a surprise get-together to celebrate the milestone, marking not just Terry’s individual achievement but the kind of long-standing relationships that run through SPC’s team. A keen football and rugby follower outside of work, Terry’s dedication and knowledge continue to be valued across the business.
